Privacy notice

This notice is for readers: people who sign up to EnergyInfluence. If you are one of the people whose public statements appear in the feed, the notice for you is Why am I in this?
Who we are
EnergyInfluence is run by Fourfold FZ-LLC, a free zone limited liability company licensed by the Dubai Development Authority (licence 107103), of DMC-BLD05-VD-G00-926, Ground Floor, DMC5, Dubai Media City, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. fourfold decides how your data is used. We do not buy data about you, and we do not collect anything from you that is not listed here.
Your optional "about" note is read by software run by TypeSafe AI, Inc. (United States), only to suggest themes and regions for your feed. We send the text of the note and nothing else: no name, email address or account number. TypeSafe's terms do not allow it to train its models on the note. Please do not put client names or anything confidential in it. Nothing else about you is sent to any AI provider.
Personalisation
Your feed and email are ordered by software using your chosen interests and, later, your activity log. This decides what you see first. It does not decide anything else about you, and the whole feed is always available to you.
Cookies and tracking
EnergyInfluence sets one cookie, ei_session, which keeps you signed in. It is essential, so no consent banner is shown. Your browser also remembers your light or dark theme. There are no advertising or analytics cookies and no tracking scripts. The typeface is loaded from Fontshare (Indian Type Foundry), which therefore sees your IP address and browser type when a page loads, as any web server does.
Our emails contain no tracking pixels and no tracked links. We do not know whether you opened an email.
Who handles your data for us
We use a small number of companies to run the service. They act for us under their standard data processing terms:
- Railway: hosting for the application and its database.
- Microsoft (Azure Communication Services): sends the sign-in links and the daily email, so it receives your email address and the email's content. A backup copy of the database is kept in fourfold's Microsoft OneDrive.
- TypeSafe AI, Inc.: reads your optional "about" note, as described above.
We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers. fourfold's administrators can see your email address, your settings and your delivery history in order to run and support the service. When sign-in moves to another provider we will update this notice first.
Where your data goes
fourfold is in the United Arab Emirates and the companies above are mainly in the United States and the European Union, so your data is processed outside the UK and the European Economic Area. We send them only what each needs to do its job.
How long we keep it
- Your account, interests and saves: until you close your account.
- The activity log: 24 months, then deleted.
- Sign-in links and the IP address they were requested from: 7 days. Sessions: until you sign out, 90 days at most.
- Backups are replaced on a rolling basis; a closed account can remain in an older backup until that backup is replaced.
When you close your account we delete the above within 30 days, apart from a minimal record that the account existed and which terms were agreed.
Your rights
You can ask us to: give you a copy of your data; correct it; delete it and close your account; stop using your activity log to rank your feed; or restrict how we use it while a question is settled. Write to ross@fourfold.work. We will reply within one month, and usually much sooner. You do not have to give a reason and there is no charge.
You can stop the daily email at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email or in Settings. That does not close your account; closing your account is a separate request.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first. You can also complain to your data protection authority: in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); in the EU, the authority in your country; in the UAE, the UAE Data Office.
Children
EnergyInfluence is a professional product. It is not meant for anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly hold data about children.
Changes
We will update this notice when what we do changes, change the date at the top, and tell you by email if the change is significant.
